I am passionate about my work, and am lucky to have felt that way for most of my professional life.
I changed careers to financial services in 2005, eventually becoming a CFP® professional and an Enrolled Agent. This move was motivated in part by my experience after my father had a heart attack and was later moved to a nursing home. My family had no idea what to expect and was not prepared to deal with the emotional and financial issues that followed. Simply put, the proper planning had not been done.
I decided that I wanted to help others plan their financial lives. Based on what I had experienced with my father, I knew that investment management was not enough. Investments, estate planning, cash flow management, taxes, and the other pieces of a person’s financial life are all interconnected. What made sense to me was a comprehensive approach to financial planning, whereby all of the pieces of that financial life are managed and made to fit together like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.
What drives me most is my desire to help people. I love the fact that everyone is different . . . that we each have unique lives with different needs and desires. The fact that each person’s situation is unique demands that their financial planning also be unique in order to fit their situation. “One size fits all” does not cut it when the need to have enough money to retire comfortably, take care of loved ones, or other critical concerns are at stake.
Prior to becoming a CFP® professional and an Enrolled Agent, I worked in the music business for 20+ years. After working at Atlantic Records I moved to Arista Records, where I was Director of Business Affairs. After Arista I became an artist manager.
I still maintain the artist management business, but the lion’s share of my time is focused on financial planning. While some of my clients are artists and others in the music business, my clients come from all walks of life.
My desire to help extends outside of On Point Financial. I am a member of the Financial Planning Association of New York’s Pro Bono Committee. Other activities include having served as a volunteer tax preparer for the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)/Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs, and volunteering at the St. Ignatius Soup Kitchen for the last 25 years.
I am an alumnus of Amherst College, with a B.A. in Mathematics.
